Porous carbon materials from oil and wood by-products.   / Theme:  Chemistry /  / Authors:  prof. Shendrik Tatyana /

The energy-saving method of producing effective and cheap adsorbents from a mixture of biomass by-products (hydrolyzed lignin and by-product of food-canning industry as bones of different fruits) and sluicing oil by-products, received at commercial oil-products reloading has been suggested. A fundamentally new technological scheme of carbon adsorbents production from apricot nuclei have been developed.

A key technological scheme of production by the method of one-stage (combined) activation via water steam of a ixture of these by-products (750-800 ºC, time -30-40 min) differs from analogues by a well-defined moment of a steam feed start (know-how) and catalytic impurities. Thus, adsorbents with a specific surface of 500-700 m2/g and adsorbtion capacity not worse than industrial analogues can be produced.

Thanks to techological peculiarities the method allows regulating a porous structure of target products, by obtaining preferentially micro-porous, meso-porous or macro-porous adsorbents.

A new adsorbent from apricot bones is at the level of industrial samples thanks to its physical-chemical characteristics and adsorbtion capacity ( adsorbents specific surfase of SBET from 900 up to 1600 m2/g, adsorption capacity by blue methylene up to 110 mg/g, the yield is up to 30%).

Products of by-products activation may be applied for air and sewage purification, used at transportation of dangerous rare freigts and for petrol collection from a water surface. The method allows partially compensating the existing need of Ukraine in adsorbents and decreasing a quantity of harmful waste ( at least 5 millions tons of lignin have been accumulated in lignin damps in Ukraine and reserves of sluicing oil by-products make more than 500 thousand tons (Odessa, Nikolaev, Mariupol and oil refineries). And one can really obtain a considerable quantity of caloric gas, which can be applied in a closed cycle of raw material processing and everyday life.
