Material for optical lenses   / Theme:  Chemistry /  / Authors:  Zaytseva Valentina, Tyurina Tatiana /

Di-ethylene glycol-bis-allyl carbonate is widely used in the worldwide practice for production of translucent materials in the instrument engineering and aircraft industry, medicine, nuclear technique, and space investigations.

Optical lenses are mostly produced from materials made on the basis of di-ethylene glycol-bis-allyl carbonate (Japan).

Di-ethylene glycol-bis-allyl carbonate is not industrially produced in Ukraine; there is no home base for production of materials on its basis, although the factory for optical lenses production has started to operate in Izyum town with a purchase of importe di-ethylene glycol-bis-allyl carbonate at a level of 50 tons per year.

Technial conditions for di-ethylene glycol-bis-allyl carbonate synthesis and its co-polymerization with vinyl monomers have been developed in co-operation with IPI Styrolinzhproekt”.

They developed technical documentation for a pilot industrial production of di-ethylene glycol-bis-allyl carbonate and copoplymers of styrene-di-ethylene glycol-bis-allyl carbonate, methyl-methacrylate-di-ethylene glycol-bis-allyl carbonate, styrene-di-ethylene glycol-bis-allyl carbonate  - acryl nitryl (methyl methacrylate) for use in optics, fiber technique, communications on close distances and optical lenses.
