Thermally expanding graphite   / Theme:  Chemistry /  / Authors:  Savoskin Mikhail /

The material is alone in its ability to increase in hundred times its volume at heating with the foamed graphite formed with a bulk density of 1,5-5,0 kg/m3.

Thermally expanding graphite is widely used worldwide in the composition of bloating fireproof prints, coatings and weather strips, for fire-protection of caoutchouc and polymer materials, and also in metallurgy for thermal isolation of a melted metal surface.

Swelling graphite is a high effective adsorbent for petrol collection from water surface ( up to 100g of petrol per 1g of adsorbent); it is a unique filter for sprays and one only high temperature heat isolator ( up to 3000° C).

They make flexible sheet graphite out of swelled graphite via pressing; it doesn’t have any analogues, and is a chemically and thermally resistant weather strip and lilning material for power engineering, chemical and automobile industry.

A wide range of thermally expanding graphite has been developed, where every one has a unique complex of properties for specific purpose and exceeds worldwide known analogues by its characteristics.

High effective and low cost technologies of thermally expanded gfaphite production have been developed that advantageously differ by low quantity of by-products.

A pilot-industrial production of thermally expanding graphite has been organized for fire protection and metallurgy.
